Leeds University Student Union
 
This huge student union is a canvas for the variety of performances and evenings that occur in here. My experiences are based on a Drum and Bass live event that is held here relatively frequently. The venue is rather vertical; from when you first enter there is a set of stairs that lead up to the balcony bar and another that lead deeply down into the belly of the place, the cloakroom and a large room with comfortable seating around the outside of a pit dance-floor. The bar for downstairs is off the right of the room and the DJ for the pit sits high up on a plateau above his dancers, visuals encompass the back walls and the acoustics emanate in a dramatic fashion, the heat in this room climbs heavily. The balcony bar is more friendly, a rooftop terrace with picnic benches hosts the many smokers and inside the roof-glass doors are a swamp of very comfortable leather chairs and sofas. The bar staff are fast and accommodating up here, the drinks are very very reasonably priced and the dance-floor sits flat with the DJ at the end on the same level as the crowd. Back-stairs connect the top bar with entrance foyeur.

Overall this is a fantastic venue for live events, i can see parts of the bar being clamped off when the bar is in normal use for its students and other areas being opened out for even bigger events, the only complaint is that the bouncers and security staff are unfriendly and unprofessional pushing thug-attitudes to an unpleasant level. Other than that I remain highly impressed and look forward to returning for future events - 8/10
