Arbutus

Arbutus fame’s itself as a Michelin star restaurant that anyone can get a seat in providing you are willing to eat early in the evening and book the day before. The venue itself is very small and could be likened to a studio flat with its thin wooden floors and mock-up bar (where some diners are expected to eat, not facing one another) and the other tables sit in the adjoining room with only the sounds of conversation and all tables perched next to one another. The waiting staff are very friendly (each member of the staff says hello and goodbye as you journey in and out of the restaurant) which might be a little over the top but the food is outstanding, I felt that the experience on my plate was somewhat sexual in the passion I had for its flavours. The cuisine price is good value for what you are getting (not ridiculously small portions as you may expect from other higher class establishments) but I felt that the service was a little off the mark and the venue was a little too simplistic and personal.
Overall a bigger location with an atmosphere of some vibrancy would undoubtedly bring the class of this experience up a notch and it certainly isn’t the right venue to bring someone on a romantic date but the food is unknockable - 7/10
