Thai Concept Restaurant (New Barnet - London)

Thai Concept Restaurant

Thai Concept is a bit of a disappointment on the restaurant scene in New Barnet for one simple reason - a few years ago the whole menu was changed as new foods were offered - some with the same name but with a totally different preparation and style. I assume the main chef had been changed because quite simply the quality of this venue nose-dived overnight. Now many of the dishes are over-flavoured, over-cooked so that they are dry and unsatisfying and the staff appear to be more clueless than ever (although to be fair they were never the cream of the crop). The restaurant is well positioned next to the Odeon cinema so a full night out could be expected with dinner and then a flick and although the decor stands to highlight a well formed atmosphere, the sound of people annoyed because the food is not up to standard keeps this place in the pits.

Overall this has been the shameful decline of what was the best Thai I had ever eaten and I now avoid like the bananas at the bottom of the fruit bowl - unless they can improve their food I suggest you steer clear as well - 3/10

Avoid Thai Concept! Just had the worst Thai meal I’ve ever had last night. My husband and I regretted that we did not send the meals back and walked out. We were the first in when they opened at 6pm and were slightly alarmed when our two different main dishes arrived 6 minutes after ordering! Obviously the microwave works well - about the only thing that does!

The tofu in my vegetable Pad Thai was inedible, rubbery and with strange white spots seemed freezer burnt. I pushed these aside as unfortunately we were ravenously hungry, having missed lunch so continued to eat the noodles. My husband’s vegetable green curry lacked vegetables, just two small floating broccoli florets, a couple of cabbage leaves and a sliver of green pepper. Everything was much too salty and the flavours lacked any depth.

The toilets desperately need refurbishment and a thorough cleaning and the lightswitch outside the toilets was grey with dirt - not a good sign.

We complained about the food and the waitress said she would have a word in the kitchen, but she reappeared saying nothing. I had to ask what the chef had said about the tofu and she explained that it had been fried first and then frozen so that was why it wasn’t fresh!

I told them it was unacceptable and left promptly, never to return. I had been recommended by my brother who had visited when the restaurant first opened and said that it had been very good. Obviously a few years on, the standards have slipped irreparably.
