Shapla Curry House

This is my favourite curry house in Barnet, yet its hidden behind a bus stop and the outside looks like it hasn’t been renovated in years. Inside the friendly (yet ditsy) team make the experience as comfortable as possible. The music is quiet sitar-instrumental tunes and there is a large fish tank in the corner. At the front a small metallic water feature adds to the tranquility of the place. The food is basically very very good, the dishes are hearty, the Korma, rich and creamy, the Masala colourful and the Phaal- roaring hot. The best dish is the Sag Paneer which is the sweetest and creamiest dish I have ever had and for me this is the benchmark by which all other Saag Paneer’s must be measured. The prices are lower than most of the other curry houses around and the menu short enough to demonstrate variety without bombarding you with too much choice. Service is fast.
The only downside is that there is not a fantastic array of seating, the toilets are a little small and they don’t do any banquet or buffet deals but the quality is second-to-none. Overall 9/10

That is quite a high rating! Barnet seems to have a few good restaurants, I was in Barnet recently, had gone to this place called Toby Carvery, that was quite good too. Does it get very busy? I try to avoid waiting to get a table by reserving on the phone or in some cases online using websites like Book a table. It’s already the weekend, lets see if I can actually go there.
