Restaurante Sorrento

I am sorry but i can hardly see how this place can be classed as much of a restaurant. A bold sign on Barnet high street indicates that Italian wonders await you down an alley way. Once down this alleyway, with its white painted walls and through an archway, one finds themselves in a cavernous room with a low ceiling which extends outwards to allow for a gathering of tables and chairs with cheap cutlery and plates. The staff are slow and confused, seemingly finding anything else but the service important. The place falls very empty as well at peak times and with only one other party dining we feel someone intimidated by it being so quiet. Sorrento prides itself on large portions and set menus which cater for those with less than a fiver in their pocket. Indeed it achieves these things, portions are large but rather plain and uninspiring. Deserts are pitiful and although free in some cases - not worth the addition to the menu.
Overall Sorrento is yet another restaurant to try and plant its feet behind Barnet High Street and not doing very well in doing so, cheap and not even all that cheerful, it would be a lot wiser to take a longer walk up the high street to Gritz - 3/10
