Loch Fyne Fish Restaurant (High Barnet - London)

Loch Fyne Fish Restaurant

Someone needs a wrist slapped for letting this perfectly good fish restaurant descend into the hands of its cowboy staff. First off let me say that although this restaurant is a little out the way from public transport links, its nestling in the cradle of Hadley common should bring its standards up to a point of fine dining. On this note it fails. We are seated in what is essentially a bustling large private party with one or two tables set at its sides for private diners. Within a few moments of sitting down we have been asked if we are ready to order and a small Chinese man has attempted to walk off with the coat I place on a nearby hook. As the course of the evening steams on, the company is a stark contrast to watching the staff embrace one another quite publicly, shouting in street language tones and dropping homosexual innuendos regarding the putting of one’s debit card into one chip and pin machine. The food however was reasonable, it was not a class above the rest in terms of the grade of the fish but there was good choice and the prices were good value.

Overall I could not see myself returning to Loch Fyne, I saw it as the pizza express of the Fish restaurant world, definitely not a chain to rival private Fish restaurants and seasonal fish felt propagandous, likely to be frozen given the common nature of the attitude of the staff - 5/10
