Imperial China (High Barnet - London)

Imperial China

Now closed down, it is generally acknowledged that Imperial China was the best Chinese in Barnet and probably in this borough for the best part of its long standing life. Imperial china had a rather cavalier entrance with white mock-marble frame pathway with wooden floor leading into a green tranquil - hall-like room with large round tables divided into two sides from back in the day when smoking and non-smoking were real states of eating. The staff were very welcoming and cheerful to see regular faces and the owner and family could often be seen dining at the back table. The food was very reasonably priced and a set menu would suffice any party of four for around £15 each. On occasion new staff had trouble with orders but on the whole it was a good place to eat and the bright windows looking out on Barnet high street gave nosy neighbour diners a real eye on the pedestrian world outside.

Overall quite the well rounded and champion among Chinese and its traditions in family dining. I will really miss this place, my heart truly sank when it shut its doors for good but it was often quiet and you can see how they eventually went out of business - 8/10
