Walkabout Bar

Walkabout is a good demonstration of how rough the guild hall strip can get.we approach the venue and are genuinely surprised when asked for id on the door but the bouncer remains very stern, clearly not a laughing matter and one of the most uninviting venues I’ve been in.we head for the bar straight away across quite a large room. The bar sits in a complete state, littered with half drunk drinks and spillages.again highlighting the crime problem- all the glasses even those in which coffee is served are plastic. All bottles are plastic too and walking away from the bar it feels like health and safety gone mad. The venue only has a handful of tables along with some long benches, all are dirty but most empty. Sport plays on the TVs and for the smokers there are one or two tables outside.saying that this place is not particularly friendly is an under statement. The large garish dancefloor looks like an empty school sports hall. On the plus side one could argue that there is a good drinks selection and for some cheesy music played all day long is a blessing.
Overall Walkabout’s is untidy, smelly, and with one in ten customers being female its quite a sad affair so one begins to wonder what the attraction is. Even the drinks are quite expensive. For me the plastic suggests its a rough pub and as comfortable a long bench can be its a long shot from a venue i’d spend my evening in - 3/10

I would definitaly prefer a local than this hole. And there is always trouble including a murder in the Summer of 09. Stay well away, its run by idiots and frequented by freaks

asking for id is anyoing at this place, i went during daytime once (im 25) and got told to go home and get my id i was only there to watch the rugby, my south african acent should atleast tell the bouncer im not a yob and my my look will tell im not 18 but his guy insisted i go home, they (bounchers) only start worked at 1pm that day so if i walked in there 12:55 i were ok, so im getting discriminated because of time rather anything els which is a joke. the music starts pumping to early and too loud. pub going club not a problem but you should get the timing right, no point whoring out Lady Gaga at 8pm when there;’s nothing happening. Thats then they don’t have bouncer during the day anymore so watching sports is all good. Night out rubish! Needs proper mangement, the place stood still in time an is offering nothing new.

Went there on a recent trip to Dorset, must have improved since the last visit. Not too bad if you’re only looking for a drink!
