The Windmill (Stanstead Airport - Essex)

The Windmill

HEavy are the crowds in Standstead Airport, and like a light, bright in the darkness is the neon glow of a wetherspoons. Swimming depper into the ebbings flux or people, a half rooved pub emerges inside the sheer stadium like size of the terminal. The place is a mess, people arriving in bursts and quietening at other times with more cleaning staff than servers leaving a slow, slow service and queues even at non peak times. The pub seems well populated with middle aged men, desperate for a pint before their flight but as ever with a Wetherspoons there is no music, no atmosphere, only clean tables. Having a peek at a family who make the mistake of ordering from the food menu, the grublooks awful. In fact the only plus point of the place seemed to be that it was the cheapest place to get food or drink in the overpriced civilisation of Standstead Airport.

Overall a place I’d rather not spend more than an hour but a good rest spot for tired legs and a pint in clean, if not dull surroundings - 4/10
