The Golden Fleece

I will be the first to admit that the curious name required some racking of the brain to remember that “the Golden Fleece” was an article out of the queer animatronic adventure of Jason and the Argonauts and as such when I first entered this pub I was not prepared for the curiosities inside. A bar sits in the middle of the pub, drum and bass tunes echo within, an older crowd with a few fruit machines in the top corner of the room. Strangely the decor brings off a sense that this place has tried to become a gastro-pub and failed (due to the music). Attractive barmaids and curtains by the windows suggest this place often has lock-ins within.

Overall the combination of old man pub with gastro and drum and bass demonstrates why this place is so popular, it feels like the management go with one idea about what the place should be and leave it before moving onto another, not in the nicest part of town (top of the hill) but it is good for a pint and a laugh - 7/10
