Alcatraz International Bar

The astutely named “Alkatraz* bar in Calella is a young, rough and ready wannabe bar with all the trimmings of a British bar trying to make it abroad and succeeding in pulling punters that crave football, loutish behaviour and pints of their favourite home favourites. The original pull for our party was the karaoke, which does indeed work to entice in those who have already had enough to drink to think this will improve the evening. The venue is made up of a large makeshift porch, equipped with bright lights and pool table, further inside are small tables and room for sitting at the bar. The front of the venue is laced in cheap neon lights and blackboards. The drinks are around 3euro a pint but bar woman that serves us chases me round the room for my order and will not leave us alone to enjoy the entertainment.

Overall if you are into red faced brits in a breeze of their own drunken loutish atmosphere where lads are hitting on 40 year old women and families park themselves at tiny tables, beaming smile on the parents faces while the kids (who really don’t wanna be there) look like they are about to cry - 4/10
