Alcatraz International Bar

The astutely named “Alkatraz* bar in Calella is a young, rough and ready wannabe bar with all the trimmings of a British bar trying to make it abroad and succeeding in pulling punters that crave football, loutish behaviour and pints of their favourite home favourites. The original pull for our party was the karaoke, which does indeed work to entice in those who have already had enough to drink to think this will improve the evening. The venue is made up of a large makeshift porch, equipped with bright lights and pool table, further inside are small tables and room for sitting at the bar. The front of the venue is laced in cheap neon lights and blackboards. The drinks are around 3euro a pint but bar woman that serves us chases me round the room for my order and will not leave us alone to enjoy the entertainment.
Overall if you are into red faced brits in a breeze of their own drunken loutish atmosphere where lads are hitting on 40 year old women and families park themselves at tiny tables, beaming smile on the parents faces while the kids (who really don’t wanna be there) look like they are about to cry - 4/10

This artical is obviously written by a toff, this bar is exatly what it is claiming to be a fun bar run by fun people Madrid and the team do a brill job for 12 months of the year, theres no better location for watching any sport you want to watch ,hes got them all,the drinks are reasonably priced and the pub grub is good too.I go every year to this bar and have never seen any trouble at all.

I have been at the bar about 10 times - the last time was 2007, with my daughter 8-years old, and she loved being there, and she loved John, the owner at the bar - it´s a fantastic place

Alctraz is probably a combination of the comments above but is certainly not involved in loutish behaviour. It is a typical brits abroad requirement.I will be back next Saturday.

Hi Madrid John, this is Stevie, Martin and Colin from Greenock. We were in your pub in June and we backed loads of losers. We are still skint. We had a drink with you in the Rabbie Burns bar in Calella. Can’t remember the name of the barmaid but she was a honey. Hope to see you next year. Stevie

It is obvious to me and my husband Dan that the author of the above article had something rather uncomfortable where the sun doesn’t shine!!
We have often gone to Calella JUST because of this pub!! The staff are friendly and fun and they remember who you are!!
Perhaps not a Michelin rating, but rather a place to let your hair down and have FUN… some people wouldn’t know how to have FUN if they had an illustrated guide on the subject, would you Greg??!!!
We love the Alcatraz and look forward to every visit!!

The review is wrong. who ever wrote this review is a snob. The alcatraz doesnt claim to be a posh bar, its a typical british bar and full of the usual british attitude, sports of all types shown all day long and a massive choice of premier football live every saturday.its open early for breakfast and ya can still get a pint at 2.30 in the morning.John madrid has got a good team and a great rapour with the punters.
