Manchester Academy

Not the easiest location to find if you are coming by train, you have to go out the back end of Manchester station and right up some of Manchester’s most desolate streets to land at this venue which sits on the edge of a roundabout. There are a few bars surrounding the venue which just feels like an old theatre and certainly does not project any notions of grandeur that you would expect from the name. The place did not seem overcrowded though I had come  to see the prodigy and the bouncers were quite friendly. Inside I found the bar to be a little crowded but with the traditional watered down beer and plastic cups of many large venue bars and little else but Carling on the menu. Expensive too, at about £2.50 a pint it leaves a sour taste in the mouth of any local manchurian.

Not a great place but the gig was excellent, overall a 4/10.

Just looking at your manchester page - you went to all the wrong bars on a narrow strip -portland street - in the wrong part of town. Ask around next time or plan your trip better

Did you mean Manchester Apollo? Manchester Academy is on Oxford Road at the university.
