Zebrano at the Establishment

Overcrowded, under-managed and messy, Zebrano at the Establishment replaces the failing club called “The Boardwalk” but I fail to see much improvement. The interior consists of a floor with a bar running along one side and a cloakroom embedded in the other ending with a staircase splitting to an upper and basement levels. The upper level is a sprawling of various tables and seats while the downstairs serves as a dance-floor, dark and uninviting with a bar at the back, DJ at the front and some seating running along the side. For the purposes of sleaze or intimacy the lower level serves well, its clientele consist of chav-like trendy young students dancing with large off-balance drunken middle aged women. The bar service is slow and painful while only the bar at the front of the “club” is the only one that serves cocktails, causing the place to overcrowd at the entrance.
Overall the place is rather unprofessional - the doorman is on a power-trip yet is stuttery and slow while the bar-staff on the upper-level make average cocktails, also with snails pace. The effect is that the place gets overcrowded in all the wrong places, but its not big anyway, there certainly isn’t any scope to call this a club when indeed it is just a bar and by all accounts, not a very good one. Final note; the music was actually worth listening to - 4/10

Gregg, I read you column on Zebrano with interest as I have now visited the new Zebrano on many occassions as my business in based on Greek St. I have had a totaly different experience. The Boardwalk was a disaster which we gave up on a long time ago but since the venue has become a Zebrano I feel as though the staff are friendly and as quick as possible, the atmosphere and people have improved and most importantly for me the quality of the drinks. I am sorry you do not love the place as much as I and my team do. Give it another try.
