The Toucan Bar

The Toucan Bar, perched on the edge of Soho Square has a wonderful air of familiarity about it and with more character than any of the other more pretencious bars in the surrounding streets, Toucan feels rugged, rocky and contently Irish. Sporting the Guiness touch it took me a surprisingly long time to stumble upon the Toucan, perhaps the dark exterior and crowding interior put me off but once inside the small but cosy venue, set on two floors was very welcoming and hospitable. We drink shot of Jager, pints of cider and crowd on the steps outside for a smoke which the tunes of local bands and grundge rock are piped into the bar.
Overall a friendly, charasmatic bar but too small to suit most, great for a drink with a friend or two where knocking a few back and having a laugh is on the cards but serious conversation and reservations must be left at the door. The staff completely make this palce and all deserve a pat on the back if not a raise although the toilets could do with being cleaner.. 7/10
