Bar 1001

Bar 1001 is the epitome of an eccentric venue and is very typical of the rich tapestry of nightlife that Brick Lane can command. Bar 1001 is initially a two-floor cafe serving fudge brownies, pastries and cold alcohol by the can through until the early hours. The cafe operates a queuing canteen type system and with its glass frontage and crisp clean looking kitchen it plays the part of Cafe quite well. The cafe pills out of the front door and onto a sea of wooden picnic benches where there is a hot dog and burger stall in the alley outside, probably the busiest and most used alley in the world as it surges with trendy folk both drinking at the bar and using it as a public walkway. At the back of the upstairs part of the cafe is the club, a medium sized heaving dark affair with dj’s pumping out repetitive electronic tunes and dance music with a bar at the back serving yet more alcohol.

Bar 1001 is truly different, it has quite little corners in which to have hearty conversation in good light, an outdoor area for mid-summer and a club for those evenings when you need to crank things up - the problem is that it doesn’t tend to open too late and one can find themselves being shushed outside at 1am - but definitely a completely different experience - 7/10
