The Star Tavern
Weaving into Mayfair among rows of smart white washed houses and cleaner than a whistle one comes across the Star Tavern. The walls of the outside are covered in coloured plants at the venue looks so traditional that its part of the landscape. Inside the pub diners inhabit almost all the tables this particular lunchtime and to the right there is a small bar served but polite bar maids between beer on tap. We find a small table int he back corner of the pub, I squeeze in to get to my chair; a German man sits with his apple mac laptop planted int he aisle as i try to get by, he holds his laptop firm and very uncomfortably I nudge past. He glares at me as i sit down - about a foot away from his stare. Our table is not particularly comfortable but the place feels homely in a traditional way, the food is pretty good and despite not quite being able to hear my conversation owing to the German couple laughing privately and then glaring at me, it was a pretty good lunch.
Overall the place would feel even more authentic with a quiet precence but with a big community to service I should imagine this pub probably packs out most evenings to spoil that traditional effect - 6/10

Greg, you’ve managed to say absolutely nothing about the beer, next-to-nothing about the decor and precious little about the food in your ‘review’! I can’t imagine that the glaring, ill-mannered German with the Apple Mac is a regular feature of the Star, so do you think perhaps you could try again and actually REVIEW THE PUB?!! After all, I was under the impression that that was the raison d’etre of this blog…
