The Phoenix Pub

A busy place to be after work, the phoenix seems to be yet another pub in this shady corner of Oxford Cirus with more character than every other pub in soho. The places is rammed with middle-aged persons and students, none too posh or common, some in kilts and trendsetters in what is a dark room. The corners of the room are lit up and the small bar offers a fairly fast service with a good range of fruit beers, belgian beers on tap and a good selection of ciders. There is not enough seating in this place or ledge and table space for that matter to aprk a pint but downstairs there is another room used for events (which happen in force every night of the week) from comedy to cabaret and burlesque.
Overall the Phoenix is a lively and loud pub with no tourists or shoppers (which is such a relief given its proximity to Oxford Street) but it is a little on the dark side with no-where to plonk your behind - 6/10

Expecting crowds but if you turn up at 7 you get a seat and immediate service from - for once - really good bar staff. Low lit, sumptuous surroundings, good atmosphere, I’d go back. Everyone time I went to the bar I got served straightaway.
