Mortimers Wine Bar

Outside Mortimer’s is the french cafe of wine bars, a flood of wooden table and chair combinations and simple plant decor which fool you into thinking your experience here will be the height of class and sophistication. Within, the bar sits to the right of the assortment of further seating where we head to an empty table only to be stopped by a stiff-upper-lipped attendant who instead places us elsewhere and hands us a menu of wines. Its at this point one notices the hotel-reception-like effect of the venue. White-washed walls and office-like blinds across the windows make this place immaculately clean looking and some-what unnerving. The wine is quite expensive and the selection broad. Celebrities can be spotted in here, (we are sure we some of the ex-Hollyoaks cast) but the atmosphere is quite dry and with little character.

Overall this is the hotel reception of wine bars, a great big showroom with about as much class and content as a drag queen seems stunning once you’ve drunk your own weight in vodka, the eyes are fooled but the wallet isn’t, perhaps too harsh to bring it down to a rating lower than average though - 5/10
