The Bald Faced Stag

Where has this gastro pub gone? Only about an eighth of it is still a pub apparently - the rest is a platofmr restaurant - laid bare and sorry at the back of this establishment. The selection of drinks however is quite good and the vibe is relaxed but up-beat with a road-side garden outside and close access to the tube if you are willign to navigate the short wlak up the hill in East Finshley. Prices are a little steep and there is not really enough seating to go around.
Overall the place has been done over to be a respectable dining venue- more than a bar really and for that it gets slapped with a 6/10. I like that they serve bowls of whitebait alongside olives and nuts though!

You’d have to admit that, if you’d known its previous incarnations, the pub in its present form is vastly improved! I’d concur with you about the shortage of seating, the shocking price of the drinks (usually £3.10-3.20 for a pint of - admittedly good - bitter/ale, for example) and the disproportionate amount of space given over to the restaurant, but at least it’s a pub that people without criminal tendencies feel comfortable drinking in now! The garden overlooking the High Road is also a fun place to people-watch in the summer.

no no no no no. overpriced and rude. £4.45 for a vodka and pepsi….the dash of pepsi costing £1.10. when i said they had made a mistake i was told they hadn’t, “thats the price”. a pint (20oz) of pepsi is £2.75 so how do they justify the dash price. overpriced and rude.

Yes this incarnation of the Bald Faced Stag is a dramatic improvement on its past when it was the only pub in the area I would never enter (thats saying a lot). Have to put in a word for the food which is actually very good and amongst the best in this part of London. The drink is expensive - a pub for a short after work visit rather than a serious drinking session.
