The Duke of York

A loud, male dominated pub with enough atmosphere and lively intent as to bowl over anyone that comes through its doors. This pub, situated on a relatively quiet corner of Clerkenwell road opens with a hall-like room with a letterbox-style bar (you have to stoop down to get served, although there is plenty of room to do so) and the bar keepers are no-nonsense east london types with a good knowledge of their pub. There is a pool table at the back and the place is complete with games machines and rowdy, yet controlled conversation. Truly men outnumber women in what feels like a very sports-orientated bar where seating is about but often occupied and the participants of the toilets are a little too friendly about describing the colour of their urine.

Overall a fantastic atmosphere if you want to experience a treasure of what Old-School Farringdon charm can offer but certainly not for everyone - 6/10
