The Undercroft Bar

For such a wonderful station, glorified, almost modern Gothic, one would think that the bar situated int he departure lounge would be world class, perhaps with subtle similarities with the champagne bar upstairs? You would indeed be wrong. The undercroft bar, much like its dull choice of name is a modern, expensive, uncomfortable canteen of a bar with a long line of folk queuing just to get soft drinks, leading out of the door, past the mess of cheap chairs and tables. The staff seem pretty miserable to be working in an underground bar with no natural light and the effect rather puts the excited traveller in a disagreeable mood.

Overall the undercroft bar is the complete after thought of this magnificent project, its selection, the prices, the attitude of the staff do nothing except to highlight the need of the station funds to have been cut just to pop any old bar in the departure lounge - quite a shame - 2/10

    hi
i generally disagree with your statement, i only recently started working in undercroft as a barista i can assure everyone we meet customer satisfaction and provide a homely environment. recent recruits are being strictly thought the ways of providing good customer services, as should be a priority.
as a recent recruit i have not once heard a complaint or seen a customer not having a smile on there face.

as coming to the case of huge cues that my friend is due to the fact that customers keep coming back and wanting more…

    thank you

Sorry Mohammad, I had a pint in the Undercroft recently while waiting for the train to Brussels (16th Oct) and I have to agree with Greg, it was a fairly dismal experience. The customers may have a smile on their face but the staff certainly didn’t, they seemed pretty grumpy! And the huge queues are due to the fact that the service is a bit slow!

alright guys i failed to mention i am a recent recruit only started on 28 September, however its fair to point out we have been having alot of problems since my last comment. the issue is mainly managerial based in my 5/6 weeks stay i have seen more staff leave than i would see passengers.
however we try to make customers stay a pleasant one yet we are being bombarded by lectures and orders into dealing a quicker rather than better service. i am the head barista with my experience from costa and with recent experiences i do believe Greg is right.
unfortunately i cannot leave my job due to that as it is fairly difficult finding a replacement.
see you on your next journey?

    My freedom of speech…
the above comment has helped me get sacked :)… Happy days found a better job bigger company better benefits get this i get paid 50% more than i used to get.
I feel sorry that i left the team yet i also learnt the staff are not valued members within the company apparently “it doesn’t make a difference to the company if they sack me or the whole team” as i have a written statement from the operations manager.

I guess i wont be seeing anyone on their next journey!!!

Woops! Sorry to hear that Mohammad, although you’re obviously better off in many ways.
Next time I’m at the Undercroft I must make a point of saying out loud that ‘this place has gone down hill since Mohammad left’!

    Cheers!
