The Salisbury Pub

Quite surprisingly the Salisbury on St Martin’s Lane in the heart of London’s West End, is a gem of a pub. From the outside it looks like an old poky pub where drinkers come in off the street to quench thirsts with a cheap ale. In fact once you slide in past the tiny glass doors, a world opens up beyond which looks like it landed directly out of a classic novel from the 1700’s. The interior is beautiful, lit up by old lanterns hanging from the ceiling and with bold, bright mirrors, ornate wood furnishings and gold leaf etchings on the walls. Basking in a warm glow, the service at the small bar is fast but the venue gets insanely crowded of an evening. Performances at the theatre next door ensure a constant influx of tourists and, well known as a beautiful venue, locals will pile in here for bitter.
Overall the Salisbury is a beautiful traditional English public house, it has been the feature of some films due to its amerous dressing and it is a joy to drink inside, when the crowds dissipate - 7/10
