Café des amis Champagne and Wine Bar

For that little spice of something different as a couple, on a date or with friends; poke your head around the corner on the road next to Covent garden tube station to find Cafe Des Amis. This champagne and wine bar is a two floor setup with modern squared fittings upstairs and downstairs a small lounge with comfortable small seating, dark walls and low lighting surrounding a large 360 degree bar. Doors sit closed off of the lounge, behind which lay kitchen facilites. We take a seat at the back and with menu in hand choose a cheese board from the selection and a fitting wine. The atmosphere was quite romantic, i suppose but the chatter of staff in the weekday evening was a little too boystrous for me. The cheeses were also not magnificent but I will be the first to raise my hand and say that this was my first cheese and wine dining experience. There were very few other persons present although I am informed that it packs out at the weekend.

Overall this small and rosy cheeked venue had some charm although with such a lavish french name I feel it falls short of expectations, especially when you find yourself scrambling to the cheese board for the last mouthful of the only nice cheese you could find (quite an issue when all other members of your party try to do the same thing). Perhaps a matter of politics - 7/10
