Sugar Cane Cocktail Bar

What i can only assume is supposed to be a tropical themed bar is housed along one of the quieter main roads of clapham.out front are a couple of tables basking in the warm glow of red lights. Within is a medium sized room-larger than you might expect from the outside with a well stocked bar at the end. A South African bar man serves us-not really seeming to embrace the place. But who can blame him? Frankly the venue is very tacky. It is very dark and the place is lit up by twenty watt light bulbs and candles. We take our drinks to a barrel with a plastic palm tree on it acting as our table. About the place are wicker chairs at the low lying tables and few seem to be standing only due to the fact that the place isn’t that busy. The mundane music doesn’t seem to help. The venue is essentially a cocktail bar but with high competition for good cocktails in clapham it was disheartening to find that a number of the cocktails tasted vile.
Overall it did seem that the effort had been put in to create an atmosphere its just that there isn’t one here. Sugar cane gets a generous 5/10

This must be the best bar I visited on my recent three month trip to Thailand. It has the best range of music a friendly atmosphere and the best looking landlady I have ever seen. Great place to chill out without the constant hassles of bar girls.

Really enjoyed nights in Sugar Cane Bar - good place to watch football, play pool and have a good time. Oi and the bar staff always made everyone welcome.

The Sugar Cane Bar was a great place to relax and have fun. There is free pool, a wide selection of beers and spirits and the largest selection of music I have ever seen.

You obviously dropped in on Sugar Cane on a bad day - or maybe you were having a bad day? because your review bears no resemblance to my experience of the bar. I’ve been to the Sugar Cane many times with loads of different people. Many of them discerning, knowledgeable bar punters. Even so, one for one they had a great time. This includes a hen party that was given every attention from the staff to make sure we had a great time - tasty nibbles, sounds to suite everyone, excellent cocktails including delicious non alcoholic ones which nearly sent me teetotal. All in all an unexpected nice buzz in South Ldn. Looks like the whole Tiki thing was lost on you eh?

sugar cane is probably one of the freshest places on the clapham scene, the cocktails and freindly atmosphere is second to none, ive been going there on a regular basis and always to enjoy myself as well as my friends, clearly you got them on a bad night, oh and they have never had a south african barman, so obviously your judgement must of been a bit hazey that night dude….

Hi, I come from Wales and read some reviews of The Sugar Cane (next to google maps when I googled ‘clapham junction bars’). They were 5 out of 5 and 4 out of 5, so I went there and it was as good as the reviews, you give it 10 out of 10, and you are spot on
