Bar Social Cocktail Bar

..Or should we say bar anti-social? The welcome is initially very warm -chocolates are presented to us as a gift before we even order a drink and the barman is very friendly and beaming but his colleagues loom in the dark corners of the bar. We are served cocktails on a two for one basis, like many in the area during happy hour which is quite pleasing. The decor though is quite off putting and it soon becomes clear that the bar has offered out every table in the small venue to parties on the reservation of a party leaving no space for casual drinkers.the almost empty bar feels haunted with its sad looking balloons, mood lighting and high cushioned skirting board at the bar. The tables also have sunk in champagne buckets which just look pointless and crude when not in use.it seems that the 80s funk is the only thing taking the edge off.
Local resident-Katie says its trying too hard, you are trying to engage your youth but it doesn’t quite manage it-inbop sums it up in one. And she’s right, spotting the enormous screen over the bar playing peter sellers films in silence feels like bar social was created for an older crowd and for the youth it just feels depressing - 4/10
