The Dublin Castle

Dublin Castle is clearly a well established rock venue for underground noises, leather dressed individuals and persons interested in the curious art of tie-dying. The venue is a small but airy room with a bar at the front end served by a busy bar woman with little taste for a smile. The drinks are around £3 a pint which is a little expensive for Camden and there are just a few tables and seats across the wooden floor leading to the back. At the back is a larger room with stage for performances and the sound system is very loud although well confined to the second room. In the front room is commercial punk music and a little heavier metal and downstairs the toilets maze into one another- all the while poisoning your mind with red walls, band posters and a moderately busy audience.
Overall the pub is small but purpose-built for metal gigs and serves this rather well- a little further from the other Camden venues but in good form - perhaps a little expensive and with the attitude of the staff it can’t really hope for better than a 5/10.

The problem with going to one or two bars a day for the rest of your life, is that you never really get a feel for the place. Your mood at the time pretty much governs what you write.
Sadly, you went into the Dublin Castle on a bad day, and let your first impression preside over your review. As a result, I don’t see this as being a reliable site for genuine reviews if you rate the Dublin Castle so poorly.
Is it possible that you have a preference for wine bar-type establishments (that don’t poison your fragile mind with red walls) filled with average-looking office people? Are you that type of reviewer?
The Dublin Castle line-up changes three times a night. The music genre is ever changing, yet you mention punk and heavy metal. Leather dressed people and tye dye? Again, this is so random when looking at the whole picture. I can’t say that I have ever observed anyone “interested in… tye dye” in the 16 years I have frequented this pub.
People may look at this review and think there’s some resounding truth in it, and be sorely disappointed that they don’t see a stitch of tye dye. Maybe for that day for you you were just super (un)lucky, but what about the rest of the evening, or the rest of the year?
Your rating system is flawed if you mark out of 10 and your average rating is 5.15. You should instead be marking out of 5 if you need the decimal point, and seldom waver from the middle of the road.
Service in England? You have got to be joking man. I can’t believe that even enters into the equation. America is across the pond. Try eating at Wong Kei’s in Leicester Square for a little perspective.
When I am served a pint in the busy back room, and I am greeted with a glass smile, asked about my day in the office, then instructed to have a nice day, then I know that All-Bar-One has taken over the Dublin Castle, that there isn’t a throng of people waiting to be served, and I can expect to be served wine and a tapas, with easy listening vibes piped in from the cd player.
Please don’t homogenise our Dublin Castle!
Your review is average in style and content. Mildly entertaining with inaccurate description, and subjective observation. Overall a pretentious tone. The best your review can hope for is a 3 out of 5.
Now the test. Will you publish this response? Are you a real reviewer who seeks actual truth, or a hack interested only in advertising profit?
