Ye Olde Mitre Inn

Wayhay its another old fashioned pub where they not only give you ‘the eye’ but you get the full ln stare and the “i think you should leave because your not local” look. I didn’t have much of choice to go there on the one time I did because it was part of the Barnet Traditional pub crawl. Steer clear unless you like cramped spaces, high prices and a violent mob of 70-somethings. yikes. But aside all of the looks on entry you have a drop down into a larger friendlier part of the pub at the back and some totally minging toilets further on. The bar is one of the weirdest shapes I’ve ever seen. Very reasonably priced for Barnet however which raised its level for me but seriously difficult to get inside the front door is like a difficult computer game.Overall a neither here nor there 6/10for ye olde mitre inn, ooo aR!

Big changes, big changes.
After changing ownership, this place (a pub I’ve come to love) was closed for renovation. I was quite excited.
Oh blimey, how wrong could I have been.
All they really needed to to was sort out the gents’ toilet and, frankly, clean the place.
Instead, they tore down the various historical knick-knacks. Strange to say, said miscillenia was actually real, honest-to-god local history. As opposed to the faintly shite odds and ends to find hanging limply from the walls of most Wetherspoons places. They pre-empted the smoking ban. Whilst I know this will be an attraction to many drinkers, it only pissed me and mates off. And, in truth, honestly messed up the Tolkeinesque environment of the place. Oh, and the house Cider is now expensive and cloudy Addlestones.
The gent’s is still nasty.
In short, a lovely pub which needed a simple cleaning up, now a nasty place bereft of any soul.
I won’t be going back

For me, as a tourist that just came to UK, this inn was the most peacefully place that I’ve found, to stay in touch with my thoughts, in a very friendly environment, with good drinks and tasty food. The fire places inside the inn gives that ancient feeling, as you’re seeing yourself in a medieval tavern, surrounded this time by friendly faces. I totally recommend Ye Olde Mitre Inn for a very nice experience. I am coming here almost everyday and I will continue to come back here because is a very nice place.
