Brasserie Chez Gerard

Another fine addition to the restaurant and bar chain that is Brasserie Chez Gerard. This wide restaurant front is positioned opposite the Monken Holt pub and offers a finer level of dining that lends itself to customer who maybe coming from Hadley Wood since it is a bit of a walk from High Barnet Tube Station. Inside the restaurant is divided in two with a small rounded bar at the end where once can sit at to enjoy a drink. One night a week there is a jazz musician, who livens up any meal, and the food is fresh, mouth-watering and satisfying. The studio effect of some of the lighting and the quiet yet chirpy atmosphere brings middle to upper class dining to a location where drinks are best served at the table and the bar is left quite empty.

None-the-less the restaurant and bar combination is a fine night out, not over-the-top glamorous or the place to drink heartily with friends but perhaps for an older crowd or a family meal where escargot and fine steak goes down well with all present - 7/10

The pubs in Barnet have an incredible heritage, highlighted in Richard Selby’s recent book about Barnet pubs. I have to say this is one of the best books on the history of Barnet and well worth a read.

I visited this restaurant after I tried to get into Savoro but sadly fully booked. Chez was ok, food tasty but for desert I ordered a chocolate fondant that came out overdone so we complained and got another one which again was overdone so we weren’t charged. For this price food was ok but go next door to Savoro for far superior food.
