The Sugar Lounge Bar (Stroud Green - London)

The Sugar Lounge Bar

A moroccan soft red-curtain interior makes the Sugar lounge appear out of place among the rotting fruit stands and cheap hair wholesalers of Stroud Green road. The sale is meze, “come and bring groups of friends” appears to be the message as we enter spotting perhaps two small crowds plunging hands into small dishes about low tables. We head in here for a drink and find pricey cocktails for the area. We move onto shots quickly, a little eager to leave a venue which feels a lot more like a restaurant than a bar but we found the tequila to be presented well and a good price at two fifty a shot. The Sugar lounge has some quite seductive and quite sick big paintings hanging about the place, making it feel more like a gallery in some aspects even revealing process on the art work.

The venue uses big mirrors to accentuate the red curtains and the fast bar staff are overly attentive and take away from the relaxing feel about the place (the head waitress rushes over to us on arrival to point out prices on drinks, the full quality of the menu and seems to highlight only one beer tap as a good thing) bemused we down shots and take leave - 6/10
