The Queen Victoria

The old Vic has been in the British TV diet for over twenty years and is a good example of a properly run pub in the east end of London. Although completely fictional the pub looks to have a good variety of drinks and prices are average. Apparently if you are a regular or a member of the family that play landlord on this venue then you can get drinks on the house. From the looks of things the full cast have some relation to one another so all should technically get watered for free all the time. This pub has been the target of fights, assault, vandalism and hatred with Christmas parties, engagements and festivities making it the centre of this rather dire community. The inside is well maintained however and the seats look mighty comfortable, without a doubt this would (in real life) been one of those pubs where everyone looks at entrants with a pause of recognition before returning to their beverage.

Overall little to complain about, a good and fair upkeep but at times the staff can be a little moody and forget your order - 5/10

Avid Eastenders fan here. Has anyone else noticed the made-up names of the beers they serve in the old Vic? On tap I’ve spotted Thames Bitter, North Export, Fordham’s Ale, Stolenberg 1940 (what a rip off of Kronenburg 1664!) and Devlins. Bottled beers are either Jenkins or Skoe. I think Skoe comes in a can too. Any others I have missed?

I can add ‘Holmes Lager’, ‘Hopborg’ and ‘Chambers Best Bitter’. You do see the iconic Coke bottles behind the bar, but the beers on offer seem to fit in with the “pint of unspecified please Peggy” comment from Alistair McGowan’s Big Impression some years ago.

There must be a fantastic back-story for Stolenberg 1940… the only brewery to have been founded in Holland after the German invasion? Or not… hmm.
