Toby Carvery

You learn a lot about a restaurant/family pub on a Sunday when you are forced to wait for a good hour or so to be seated in an almost empty restaurant. This building standing outside any town centre is a haven for those families of broad stomach and little mind. The Cavary itself is unimpressive when you do finally get seated and the bar itself is overcrowded with slow bar staff but well priced drinks. The seating is all crammed together on the right hand side and looking for a seat at the back you find yourself waiting in the garden on the coolest of summer days. I have to say that this place was not as impressive as i had hoped and although the bar is clean and the venue is filled with large oak panelling, arches and open fires the staff are rather unfriendly and management need to sort their act out.

Overall I am pretty certain I shall not return although it did not put me off the whole Toby Cavary chain, again the bar was suited only for waiting for the restaurant- do not be tempted to stop for more than a pint if you’re just after a drink- 4/10.

What a complete load of rubbish.
Nobody forced you to wait a good hour or so, you should have left if you were unhappy about waiting.
Only a fool would wait so long.
It has great food at a good price with friendly staff.
Obviously you have waited too long (probably nearer 20 minutes is my guess) and got pissed off like some kind of spoiled idiot.
And from then on the pub was never going to get a good review.

I was in this Toby Inn while on a visit to Chester with my family, we arrived early and were seated promptly. The food was of normal Toby standard but the staff had no idea about good service. After finishing our main course we waited 20 minutes before the table was cleared. we tried to catch the attention of two staff members but were brushed off with a “I’ll just get someone to see to it”. I use the Toby in Bridgend South Wales a lot and have always had good service there. Hoole staff need to learn how to treat paying customers

visitited toby at chester n numerous occasions and found it to be good. Until today when the food was carp!!! the broccolli was yellow!! the turkey was dry to the bone and when I commentend on this the chef? ignored me? also the meat portion was miniscule. very disapointed. when I asked for a form to fill in for a customer complaint was told. ” We have had the area manager in today and she was pleased” good for her!! put me off completely!!!
